scheduling in manufacturing or experimental design in chemicals research. Her applications focus on optimisation challenges arising in industry, e.g. Foundations of her research are in numerical optimisation algorithms and computational software. In her inaugural lecture, she will explore the possible future impacts of these relaxations whilst acknowledging her ironic struggles to achieve more traditional forms of relaxation in her real life.ĭr Ruth Misener (she/her) is a Professor in Computational Optimisation in the Department of Computing. Ruth Misener is Professor in Computational Optimisation at Imperial College London whose work has focused on developing relaxations and other approaches to expedite the solution of challenging optimisation problems. Application are wide and varied, from manufacturing to and logistics to machine learning, and can also include bioprocess optimisation under uncertainty and petrochemical process network design and operations. In computational optimisation, a relaxation of a difficult-to-solve optimisation problem is an easier-to-solve approximation with special properties. We have limited in-person spaces available so please ensure you register in advance via Eventbrite. There is plenty to do even if you don't purchase additional services.Join Professor Ruth Misener, online or in person, for her Imperial Inaugural. Basically our afternoon involved a lot of sitting/lying around relaxing in different parts of the facility. Also really liked the salt room Ice room: 61 degrees of awesome! Relaxation room (3rd floor): awesome! Outdoor pools: liked the hydrotherapy features Food: Sushi (on second floor) was good but not great Dumplings (on third floor) were just okay. 183 degrees was too hot! Our favorite room was the Gold Room. You pay for charges when you leave - they don't ask for a credit card upfront. You can also charge food to your account via your watch. Your issued "watch" locks and unlocks your lockers (look for the matching number). for pool time) You'll want to bring your own towel (the spa issued towels are tiny and there is a deposit required) Your shoes get a small locker and there is a large locker for the rest of your belongings. There is several areas where you can lay down and nap, watch TV, read, etc.ĭress code: No shoes anywhere in the spa Second and third floors (saunas and restaurants) require the issued uniform (shorts and tee shirt, no underwear) Single gender pools - no attire allowed Coed pools - bring your own swimsuit (bring cover up, hat, sunscreen, reading material, etc. It says no outside food but I saw several people eating their own food. They have several restaurants where you can get food and drinks. They also have a ice room to 61F that felt like I was sitting inside a fridge with the iced coils. You sit in the hard wooden benches or lay on straw mats with wooden "pillows". On the second floor, you need to wear a uniform which is a shirt and shorts and there is 10 different saunas with different temperatures, hottest was 181F (I only lasted 2 min in this one) and materials like gold, charcoal, etc. They have an outside and inside area, so bring your hat and sunscreen. They jets are very powerful but I thought the water could have been hotter. Outside the locker rooms there is a co-ed pool area with many hot tubs and jet sprays for different body parts like neck, feet, etc. I walked around to check it out but I didn't feel comfortable doing that. The lockers are separated by gender and inside the locker room are several hot tubs with different jet sprays and temperatures(about 10 degrees hotter than the ones outside the locker rooms, hottest was 104F) where you need to shower before entering and must be nude to enter. The floors are wood, you can't wear shoes. You put your shoes in the small locker, then walk in further to put the rest of your stuff in the bigger locker. $35 on a weekday but I came with a groupon. Bring your own big towel or they will provide you with a little hand towel to dry and cover up! When you pay, they give you a watch that serves as your locker combination opener and charge tab. It was perfect, I would not want to be there on weekends. We came on Friday morning at 10am and left at 4pm.
